PESHAWAR: The city remained sealed from all four sides on Friday for peaceful observance of the last four days of Ashura Muharram.

Barricades were erected right from the Greens Hotel Square up to the Stadium Chowk in Saddar Bazaar to stop the entry of vehicular traffic. The pedestrians are being allowed entry only after a thorough body search. Vehicles were being searched at a checkpoint close to the Peshawar Press Club in order to prevent entry of any suspicious car into the Cantonment limits.

In the inner city, barricades were erected from Soekarno Square up to Chowk Yadgar and from Kohati Chowk up to Andar Shehr Bazaar. Thousands of cops were deployed in the area to counter any terrorist attack in the most sensitive part of the city, from where a number of Ashura processions are carried out. According to an official of the city police, 103 unregistered Afghan nationals were arrested in raids on Friday. Also, 124 others were arrested for violation of ban on pillion riding.
